Our baby’s first porridge
During the first 6 months, our baby will be fed with either breast milk or artificial milk, and it is from that date that pediatricians recommend introducing complementary food in the form of porridge.
The first foods that our baby will eat will be fruits, vegetables and cereals, so the porridge stage will begin.
Baby food from 6 months
At first, it will be enough for the baby to taste one or two tablespoons so that it comes into contact with the spoon and especially with the new flavor that we are going to introduce. This fact will cost you a lot and you should not force it if you do not want more.
We will always complement porridge with breast milk, as it will continue to be their main diet.
The Spanish Association of Pediatrics recommends starting with small portions and increasing them little by little. What is recommended is 2 to 3 porridges a day spread over breakfast, lunch and dinner between 6 and 8 months of age. First, breast milk should be offered to the baby to continue with the porridge.
The first porridges that our baby will take will be cereals to later move on to fruit (pear, apple, orange and banana). The rest of the fruits will not arrive until after the year.
Foods in their first porridge
It is convenient to make the first purées with one or two foods. An example would be cooked potato and carrot or gluten-free cereals.
Special care must be taken that they do not contain sugar, salt, or any spice. We could only add a little breast milk or artificial milk diluted in water.
The foods that we can mix would be potato, carrot, green beans, leek, zucchini and pumpkin, leaving the rest of the vegetables until after the year. After a week taking these vegetables, meat can be introduced, preferably chicken since it is much better digested and later beef, turkey or lamb.
